Gallus-group regards product safety as a key issue. As its part, the company operates an own testing laboratory, which guarantees quality products to clients and partners. It also ensures the compliance with the animal health- and other regulations in the integration from feed production to the primary production phase of poultry rearing and growing.

In the first instance, the laboratory makes the testing duties for the sites belonging to Gallus-group. Most of the tasks are scheduled in advance and are set in workprograms, a lesser part adds up from tests requested in the meantime. Besides the internal tests, our laboratory accepts orders by external clients.

Accredited tests

Our objective is to provide highly professional accredited testing in accordance with professional practices for the sake of fully meeting clients’ needs. Therefore our laboratory regularly participates in food chain proficiency testing and in interlaboratory comparisons that are appropriate for its accredited testfields. Besides these external supervisions, our own internal proficiency checks are completed on a monthly basis.

The history of the Laboratory

The laboratory started its operation on 11 May 1999, as the animal health laboratory of Gallus Ltd. for the sites headed by the Chief Veterinarian, employing a Chief Laboratory Technician. Along the dynamic growth of Gallus Ltd. , the laboratory had its own development. As a result, it was appointed by the Food and Feed Safety Directorate, Central Agricultural Office in July 2008 to provide testing for protection from salmonellosis.
After some considerable developments in equipment and personnel, and implementing the quality management system, it continued to operate as a public animal health service-provider laboratory from July 2009. The quality management system of the laboratory was acknowledged and accredited as a testing laboratory of NAT-1-1618/2009 by the National Accreditation Authority from 9 December 2009 onwards.
Based on its proficiency in tests of isolating salmonella-types and its licences available, the laboratory received the appointment on 12 April 2010 by the Food and Feed Safety Directorate, Central Agricultural Office to perform salmonella „O” group topology, so the tests to decontaminate poultry salmonella are all available.

The Microbiological Laboratory of Gallus Poultry Rearing and Hatching Ltd. operates with the scope as follows:

  • Animal health and environment samples from the first production phase in poultry rearing and growing: testing samples of bedding, faeces, boot/socks swap, lining of transport boxes, dust, swap, organs of day-old chicks, unhatched eggs for isolation of Salmonella sp.
  • Microbiological testing of samples (swaps) from food industry environment hygiene and production technology hygiene
  • Testing samples from the split neck skin of a broiler chicken for isolating Salmonella sp.
  • Testing samples from feed, feed-commodities for isolating Salmonella sp.
The laboratory, as an accredited testing laboratory, allows the clients (if they request it) to convince themselves about the actual compliance with the regulations of the accredited quality managament system concerning the tests ordered.

After scheduling an appointment in advance, and having received a permission by the Laboratory Head, our Client can enter the laboratory – being accompanied and subject to work, fire and accident regulations set in the laboratory –and can watch the test(s) being carried out for his samples as well as get an insight into documents, notes referring his samples in a way that confidential file management is not violated regarding other clients.

Our Clients may also have an overview of the Quality Management Manual, so as to have a deeper understanding of the quality management system.
